Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) is a critical knowledge system and ecological relationship that allows communities to maintain deep engagement with their land. In the Caribbean, where inlands are often characterised by topographically-complex limestone formations, TEK is often the only knowledge held of remote, biodiverse enclaves. Our lab works with traditional Maroon communities in the Caribbean to understand the rich tapestry of ritual practices and traditional livelihoods that help knowledge-holders maintain a wealth of TEK.
